Headstarter is a father-and-son startup founded in 2020, during a time when Britain’s relationship with the EU was in flux — and the path forward for intellectual property was anything but clear.
During ChatGPT's private beta test clear benefits emerged from using Sherlock (our in-house pattern finder) to focus ChatGPT, and from using ChatGPT to describe patterns found by Sherlock in easy to understand terms.
Headstarter was formed to develop and scale that fusion. We combined Sherlock with ChatGPT’s completion engine to create Mycroft: a fully scaled platform that helps people engage meaningfully with complex text.
Rather than build from the uncertainty of post-Brexit Britain, we chose to anchor in West Cork, Ireland — a region rich in history, high-tech connections, and personal meaning. We’d sailed these waters in younger days, and always wanted to come back.
Today, Headstarter builds human-centric AI platforms that help people understand, and use information — from legal codes to grant systems, from tax guidance to internal manuals.
Mycroft Ireland is our first full deployment, but it won’t be the last.
Information overload wastes time and generates uncertainty, so it makes sense to lighten the load with smart indexing systems you can chat with.
Whether I'm coaching Skibbereen Rugby or advising Danish bakeries on how to maximise team performance the same principle applies. Interaction unlocks performance. Mycroft does that for text.
We found Sherlock combined rigour with elegance to power the deep textual insights we needed in finance and technology.
Search engines only help you find what you already know you want. This is a Discovery Engine that reveals new connections and insights, opening the door to innovation.
